Country music legend and Grand Ole Opry member Charlie Daniels, along with his wife Hazel and The Nashville Palm host “Charlie Daniels Scholarships for Heroes,” a charity event benefiting Sentinels of Freedom and veteran students of Lipscomb University, on Tuesday, October 9. They will be joined by special celebrity guests Sal Gonzales and Aaron Lewis.
The benefit, emceed by GAC’s Storme Warren, begins at 6:00 p.m. with a VIP cocktail reception, with doors opening and the silent auction beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Palm will serve a signature “Surf & Turf” dinner at 7:00 p.m., followed by the program and live auction at 8:00 p.m. Live art by Randall Hedden will be among the unique items featured. Special guest Mark Green MD FACEP will be honored that evening. After graduating from West Point with a degree in business, Mark Green served as an infantry officer, eventually commanding a rifle company in the famed 82nd Airborne Division. While in command, his father’s life was saved by a surgeon, profoundly impacting him and leading him to seek a degree in medicine. Following his residency in emergency medicine Dr. Green was assigned as the flight surgeon for the 1st Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne). There Mark served alongside some of the nation’s most elite warriors on two tours in Operation Iraqi Freedom and one in Operation Enduring Freedom. He participated in planning and providing medical coverage for some of OIF and OEF’s most covert operations. He is a recipient of the Bronze Star, The Air Medal with “V” device for Valor, The Air Medal, and the Combat Medical Badge. He is the Author of “A Night with Saddam” – A Special Ops Flight Surgeon’s Interview with Saddam Hussein on the night of his capture and the mission which led to their meeting. |
